The cost is US$180 payable through Stripe (via credit card), or contact me and I'll send you an invoice, or instructions on how to pay using PayPal. If you are in Australia and wish to pay by bank transfer, contact me and I'll send you an invoice with bank details.
You can join my courses at any time and work through at your own pace, and and that is how I've designed my courses to be completed. However some people like to have a schedule to follow. I try to do a full scheduled run-through of each of my courses each year. The next Special Effects in Watercolour run-through will be from 12th June to the 4th September 2024.
Here is the schedule you may follow if you choose.
Lesson 1 - 12 June (two weeks)
Lesson 2 - 26th June (two weeks)
Lesson 3 - 10th July (two weeks)
Lesson 4 - 24th July (two weeks)
Lesson 5 - 7th August (two weeks)
Lesson 6 - 21st August (two weeks)

Special Effects in Watercolour is a six lesson extension course that is perfect for those who have completed my Mastering Watercolours course, and perhaps also my Travel Sketching Course, though others with experience in watercolour are welcome to join.
Each lesson is a new project based on a natural and largely floral theme. In each project we'll add new techniques to extend the skills developed in the Mastering Watercolours course. We'll refer to the colour charts, use the colour wheels and build on that foundation. This is not a course for beginners as a lot of knowledge and some experience is assumed. As with my other courses, it contains videos (over 8 ½ hours), step-by-step photos and written instructions. It is self-directed, but there are Question sections at the end of every lesson that I check regularly, and plenty of opportunities to post your progress and interact with the other participants.
Lesson 1 covers masking fluid in detail, with a gorgeous frangipani as a subject.
Lesson 2 covers a range of techniques and watercolour pigment characteristics in a multi-view mushroom study
Lesson 3 explores pigments, granulation and details using pebbles as a subject
Lesson 4 explores bending coloured washes with a tulip study
Lesson 5 includes a range of really interesting techniques for lifting subtle highlights and creating texture with an orchid as a subject
Lesson 6 is a Lotus, worked from tone to colour in a technique more common used in oils.
All the lessons have a challenge section for participants to try the techniques to create a study of their own.
A suggested materials list is attached. Most will be familiar. As always, use what you have first.
